Congratulations on choosing Trezor, one of the most trusted ways to keep your cryptocurrency secure! With Trezor, you’re taking control of your digital assets, knowing they’re safe from online threats. This guide will help you set up your new Trezor device with ease—just follow along, and you’ll be ready to use your Trezor wallet in no time.
Once you have your Trezor device (either the Trezor Model One or the Model T), go to Trezor.io/start. This page has everything you need to get set up, including secure software downloads and step-by-step instructions.
Trezor Suite is a desktop application that allows you to manage your cryptocurrency and make transactions easily and securely.
Download Trezor Suite for Windows, macOS, or Linux from the Trezor.io/start page.
Alternatively, use Trezor Suite’s Web Version if you prefer, but the desktop app is recommended for the best security and experience.
Using the USB cable provided, plug your Trezor into your computer. Open Trezor Suite, and it will guide you through each step. This connection process is the start of making sure your device is uniquely yours.
The first time you use your Trezor, it might need a firmware update. This only takes a moment and is essential for security and compatibility.
Follow the prompts in Trezor Suite to install firmware.
Confirm any instructions that appear on your Trezor device screen.
Once complete, your Trezor is up-to-date and ready for the next step!
After the firmware installation, it’s time to create your wallet. This is a big step in protecting your assets, so take it slowly and carefully.
Create a New Wallet: When prompted, choose to create a new wallet. Your Trezor will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed—this is your backup to restore your wallet if needed.
Important: Write down your recovery seed on paper and keep it somewhere safe. Do not store it digitally, and never share it online or with anyone else. This seed is the only way to recover your assets if you lose access to your device.
Setting up a PIN is essential for protecting your wallet from unauthorized access. Choose a PIN that’s unique and memorable, but secure. This PIN will be required each time you access your Trezor device, adding another layer of protection.
For even more security, Trezor offers an optional passphrase feature. This is an extra word or phrase that acts as an added layer of protection on top of your recovery seed. Note: This is for advanced users and is best if you want an extra shield of security.
With your Trezor set up, you’re ready to start adding your cryptocurrency accounts.
Add Accounts: In Trezor Suite, go to the "Accounts" section and add accounts for each cryptocurrency you plan to store. Trezor supports a wide range of assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and many others.
Send and Receive Cryptocurrency: Use Trezor Suite to send and receive crypto safely. Every transaction you make can be reviewed and confirmed directly on your Trezor device.
Now that you’re all set up, here are a few reminders to keep your wallet and assets safe:
Backup your recovery seed in multiple safe locations.
Stay updated by checking for firmware updates.
Be cautious online: Only use the official Trezor Suite and always confirm addresses before sending funds.
With your Trezor, you can relax knowing your digital assets are secure. Using Trezor means putting security first, and now you’re part of a community of users who prioritize protecting what’s theirs. Should you ever need help, Trezor’s support team is ready to assist.
